Product Traceability

VERIFICATION

We appoint independent auditors to regularly check and analyse samples from the marketplace. This helps protect consumers from counterfeit products.

Our History

1995

Waikato-based honey producer Margaret Bennett meets with New Zealand trade Enterprise (TRADENZ) officials seeking advice on how to identify and differentiate the unique properties of Manuka Honey. 1995

1997

Meetings are held with TRADENZ officials, attended by interested parties including producers, marketers and researchers.

A dedicated industry group is formed called the Active Manuka Honey Industry Group (AMHIG).

A steering committee is appointed to investigate a name for the unique properties found in Manuka Honey and to establish industry standards.

The Unique Manuka Factor (UMF®) quality mark is developed. 1997

1998

The registered trademark UMF® is formally unveiled at a beekeeper’s field-day event at Paengaroa in the Bay of Plenty.

AMHIG becomes an incorporated society known as the Active Manuka Honey Association (AMHA)

Beekeepers contribute funds to help fund the protection, research and promotion of the UMF® brand.

The UMF® quality mark is launched and successfully defended legally. 1998

2004

In market audits of UMF® Manuka Honey commences. 2004

2009

IANZ Accreditation for NZLABS. 2009
