The Independent Commissioner offers an independent and impartial viewpoint of the workings of the UMFHA, as a way of facilitating open, fair and reasoned discussion about the Association. The role also advocates for and provides guardianship of the UMF quality trademark. This includes protecting the reputation and image of the brand, fostering its growth and generally building brand equity. Additionally, where required, he is called upon to adjudicate any complaints raised by members, licence-holders or members of the public.

He has worked across a wide range of industries from industrial processing, primary production, technology and insurance through to international trade, and consumer sales and marketing.
